PONTÓN BED

In conjunction with a former classmate, Omar designed and made a platform bed for a client to hold their existing Cali king mattress.  Initially Omar began to think and write about what sleep meant and how this bed could enhance the lives of the users.  Finding inspiration in temporary bridges (“PONTÓN” or “pontoon” in English), both physically and metaphorically, the design intention was to aid in the psychological state their client might enter in and out of for a large portion of their lives.  Reflecting a modern mobile society, they created a “kit of parts” that can be put together and taken apart up intuitively, and stored with relative ease.  The result was achieved through collaboration and improvisation as they both gained confidence in the professional realm of contract work.
